And they're off.... Not an amazing day, but passable - and we passed.

Today we FINALLY left South Haven.   I like South Haven.   I don't like South Haven enough to live there on a boat when the waves are bouncing you around in the harbor, wind is throwing leaves on the boat and it's in the 40s and 50s with rain and 30mph wind.   But that has passed.   Thanks to our friends the Katt's for loaning us a car in S. Haven so we could stock up, buy some things we need and keep out of the cold rain.    Ebikes are great when it's 70 and sunny.   Not so great when it's 50 and raining.

Finally today the lake decided to lie down a bit.   The forecast said 1ft or less.  Great!  This will be pleasant sunny day and we can take our time and leisurely meander across the lake.    Not so fast.

More like white caps, 3ft waves and from two directions -- until we got about 2/3 of the way across the lake.  Then it turned really nice.     We crossed just south of Chicago but we could see it from 10 miles out ...   It's much more beautiful up close -- but we've seen that before and we're ready to get to a dock.

And here's the dock..

Today we ended our day in Hammond Indiana.   Right across the harbor from a huge casino.   This marina is BIG.   And it's in the same harbor we'll use to get to the CalSag in three days -- to begin our journey on the river systems south.

Look how many OTHER "loopers" are here!  (Most loopers use an app called Nebo which lets us contact each other and see the names of other boats doing the loop etc).   The AGLCA flag on the boat name is the key to know someone is a looper.      See if you can tell where WE are...   (SeaYa!)

Anyway - we are here SAFE and nothing major broken.  (Not nothing broken, but I think we'll get used to breaking things...)   Here's a like to a map of the route we took today...  Pretty direct.  (PDF format)

Our JOURNEY today...

Oh, and Katie's really ready to end the waves and sitting in a boat alone with me.   It's time for some socialization.   So.... It looks like we're in for another three days of rain.   JOY.  Is it just me or does it look like it's raining where we are and working hard to. are it ONLY on us...

At least here we can walk to restaurants and there are dozens of other loopers we can meet and exchange stories with.   Tomorrow we'll start the socialization -- as today we're too tired.

Oh, and one last shot for our D Dock friends.   Our boat wouldn't fit on D Dock here either... so we're at E dock.
