Can we just get a do-over? Not such a good start to this adventure.
Let's just chalk this day up to experience. Not so great. This was the day we had to travel to get south before the big waves start -- so we went. But the big waves came anyway. Waves from every direction. Rocking us, bouncing us, beating us. We tried slow (got sea sick). Tried fast, and lets just say that didn't go well.
If anyone finds a 15hp outboard, gas tank, seats, lights, life preservers and personal gear floating between Saugatuck and South Haven... I know who they used to belong to. (and no, most of those things don't float). We got safe to South Haven but the dinghy is done. It was an old dinghy -- but it worked and I liked it. No longer. Now we'll have to go shopping. Mo money, mo money. Arrgh.
At least we are safe and comfortable here in South Haven in a marina for the next four days or so. Time to do some online dinghy shopping I guess... Not much more of Lake Michigan and we certainly won't replace it until we're off the lake...
We won't be moving again until at least Monday. The lake is about to get even uglier than it was today...
Hi Daniel!
ReplyDeleteEvery "epic journey" has some major setback... Maybe you dispatched this one on your first day.
I've always told my son on our travels: "The only difference between an ORDEAL and an ADVENTURE is your ATTITUDE!"
I look forward to following your "adventures" on your Epic Journey.

So good to hear from you again! That is a blast from the past. It seems like so long ago that wybbs.mi.org existed. I found an old uucpnet map online the other day where wynalda.mi.org and wybbs.mi.org were listed as two of the first 500 or so sites on what became the internet... Crazy. Yes, attitude is everything. We can learn and grow or be defeated. I must admit I've felt defeated alot this week. Things got expensive very quickly. We'll be buying another dinghy but we're going to wait a few weeks until we're further self and in protected water. For now we'll really not need the dinghy as we'll be mostly in marinas or anchored in anchorages that don't have towns nearby to visit. Eventually we will want a dinghy to be able to go ashore at dinghy docks and avoid slip fees -- as well as explore areas we would never take the big boat..
DeleteDan. Plans are just that. Then reality hits and you get memories created. Glad to know you both are managing all this.
