Cumberland Seashore to Brunswick GA

Another chilly start to the day.  About 50°.  But at least today the dew point was lower so everything wasn't wet.  Wet and cold is more miserable than just cold.

Today as we pulled out of our anchorage we fell in line behind a shrimp boat returning from the sea (above).   Big storms are coming for the next few days so we are moving to a marina.  This might be why boats are coming in.... The weekend is also coming so it makes sense the commercial vessels are in for that reason too.    Not sure which applies to this shrimper..  Lots of boats at docks and not many out .

On our way heading north we cruised past the Trident nuclear sub base.     There were multiple guard boats out cruising the harbor.  I'm pretty sure if we wanted to go get a closer look we would not have had a good day...
No subs to be seen while we were here...

Once we got past the sub base the water turned skinny.  Like shallow.

Here are a couple of sample charts.

We had to navigate the yellow or blue or green. Yellow means there's about 2ft below the props....    We had a foot or so of tide left also so maybe 3ft, if nothing is on the bottom..  Mud lined both sides of the channel showing where the water dropped as the tide went out.    We probably should have done this on a RISING tide but I had two boats ahead of me and one of them was deeper than our boat.... So we followed slowly.

On the 2nd chart there is a nice blue area right after the bend.  Note the x and the exclamation point.  They were dredging and blocking the entire channel with pipes.   We had to shimmy around them to the left in the red.   Fortunately, they sucked out some of that mud before they moved into the channel so no issue...

After a little bit it got really beautiful out in the morning.  I have no idea if that image will let you scroll but when I took it I took it in panorama mode so you could see a little bit of what the horizon looked like.

The wind has died down and the water is gorgeous.   It sure is deceiving to realize some of that beauty is only six inches deep.... :)

Eventually we made it through the skinny water and into another large sound.    Big bridge.  Big ships...

We took a detour inland for six miles to Brunswick GA. (The part of town we went through on bikes is in sad shape and we saw a number of abandoned houses, houses with no windows, even a boarded up school.   Tough neighborhood.).  The Brunswick Landings Marina, however, is a little bit of paradise.

It's a former US Navy Hurricane hole.   It survived Ian with no boats being damaged.  That said the dock on the house next to the marina was destroyed.... (And still is)

This marina is very welcoming and has lots of activities.  It's a good place to stick around for a storm.

We intend to spend three nights, do free laundry, buy some supplies and play bingo.  We rode the bikes (mine without battery and testing my old leg muscles) over to the Winn Dixie to get the necessities.

I dug into my bike problem and I think I found the problem.  (Melted wires were a clue).

Hopefully getting a replacement part in the near future - gotta see when I can get it shipped and pick a method.

Played a little bingo with fellow boaters tonight in the Yacht Club.

Katie also found her happy place.   This is a big book swap area ..

We are going to be here for three nights due to storms.  I'm not into boating on unfamiliar waters with dangerous shoals in thunderstorms...

The journey of the day....
Until Sunday.... We will hunker down and wait out the storms.
