Beaufort NC to Oriental NC
Short run today about 25 miles to Oriental NC. It's a small little town with a general store, a few restaurants, a hotel that is a marina (where we stayed), a bigger marina and a ton of shrimp boats.
This is obviously a commercial fishing port...
We left Beaufort at slack tide (before 8am) and pulled both of our anchors easily (a rare thing).
En route we attended church online with Tom speaking loudly and clearly through our almost new stereo we put in the boat. Bluetooth is good. My 2002 stereo didn't have it. This new stereo isn't perfect or awesome but it is feature packed and has a remote and sounds decent - for $50. Mobile audio is inexpensive if you know what to look for.... It's not world class audio but sounds great and does what I need it to do.
We did lunch in town today at Barcos.
Great place and although the town seemed empty this place was packed right up until it closed (at 2pm). Most restaurants here are open Thursday to Saturday. Perhaps people don't eat here on Sun, Mon, Tues or Wed :).
Tomorrow we take a side trip out to the outer banks and hope to stay at Ocracoke - an island with no bridges on or off. They do have ferries though and vehicles.
As usual a nice sunset ended the day. Cold .. (41 tonight) but beautiful... We are definitely ahead of the crowd and probably up here too early in the season. This comes with the desire to be back home at Lake Michigan by the end of June.... We finally have a break from the heavy winds. Such a peaceful place. There's a tiki bar behind us playing good music as we sit in the boat and relax from an active day.
Tried to fix my ebike again today. No bueno. I have a new controller that works. I can't get my existing bike throttle to tell it to go though. I'll probably just buy another ebike throttle that I know how it's supposed to work..
