New Haven CT to Westport CT

Today was the day.   The day we were boarded by the coast guard.    4500 miles and never bothered.   The crew today was really bored and needed to make their quota of boardings and boat inspections..... And we were literally the only boat out that wasn't working and local.

They were courteous and kind and checked all of the things necessary for safety (according to their books).   We passed with no issues..

We spent the night at the $4 a foot dock in New Haven.   We wouldn't, but they were closed.  No one around and no numbers or signs.  The local survey boat I included yesterday docks there also and said no one was even ready yet this year to place mooring balls etc so no one would bother us.   They didn't.  No power or anything but we don't need that.  Free docks are awesome.

We traveled from New Haven to Westport today.  About 31 miles up the coast.   Migrating back toward the city.   We didn't have time to go further east.

it was fairly wavy with winds from the south so we got on it a bit as we got closer to the islands where we could get some protection.

We are in an awesome marina (public) that is normally totally full but it's early season.  $2 a foot.  We can do that.  Power included!  That's rare around here...  We are definitely the biggest boat in the marina.

Tonight we went to a performsnce at the local theatre.     It's at the Westport Country Theatre  titled:  ARI AXELROD – A PLACE FOR US: A CELEBRATION OF JEWISH BROADWAY

It was nearly sold out.  We were in the back corner and had ONE empty seat next to us.  There were a few more single seats open but it was very full....  And mostly people older than us ...

Given that a huge percentage of the greatest Broadway plays were written by people of Jewish decent and we are in the heart of a highly Jewish area.... We figured we were in for a treat.  We weren't wrong.   It helps to be an hour or so out of Manhattan so the talent level is top notch.

Ok.  Back from the show.  If you ever get a chance to see Ari perform, I would do it.  He's insanely gifted (and a Michigan kid).  I have to say it was an interesting and stunning evening.

The crowd was mostly Jewish and many customs and quotes were in Hebrew.  It was informative to see the parallels between Jewish story telling (central to the people and the faith) and the fact that they have exceled in story telling on the biggest stage.   So much to think about and ponder.  Especially in these times.   It's tough to see the embedded mindset repeating itself and choosing to speak as if the party that represents them here is actually the side trying to protect and defend their right to be who they are.    In the end it felt like there was an admission that there are no friends of the Jewish people in power despite the rhetoric and it is important to be strong and proud and who they are regardless of what may come.   History repeating itself.   I pray that doesn't happen but the signs of what is happening on the campuses say it's likely that we are heading down a dark path.

I don't generally preach on this blog.  I don't typically give opinions.  But if you see what's going on in the world and on the campuses and think Israel is the problem ... You aren't paying attention.

I've read how this ends.  The world does turn on Israel.  There is no great power from the west.  That doesn't make me any less sad about it...

In the end the story and the song is what has always held the Jewish culture together and trials and tribulations have made them stronger, not weaker.   I tend to believe there is a reason for that (a blessing), but even if you don't it's hard to argue the Jewish people have amazing and gifted storytellers and musicians.

Good night all ..   it's been another great day on the Long Island Sound.   Connecticut isn't a poor state ...  Talk about beauty.   The dwellings and landscape and lay of the land is stunning.
