Columbus MS to Gainesville AL
Another beautiful day on the water.
We started early at 6am. Two locks today. Two more before the Gulf - but hundreds of miles... We were miles back into an anchorage on the 'old river's channel when we anchored in the city.
Lots and lots of twists in the river without much on either side. Lots of growing flowers and duckweed. And lots of wood to avoid.
We are getting close to the white cliffs of Epes and with it we are seeing much more white stone in the banks.
Today after we anchored Katie volunteered to do the dinghy driving while I answered some work emails.
We are also seeing more vertical to the banks here. Mississippi had high banks sometimes too but most of the time they were eight to ten feet to a flat field level...
Tomorrow is a lock free day. 60 miles or so to Demopolis AL. We used to work with a paper mill there in Demopolis. I suspect it is gone or has been repurposed into another kind of mill. We hope to arrive early enough to do an oil change in our engines... It's close to needing to be done and doing so in a full service marina is preferred for sure .. even better if there is a Walmart and a courtesy car just in case we need something...
